“Groundwater: drought, floods and climate change” is the main theme for the 2019 International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH Irish Group) Conference.

The conference will take place at the Tullamore Court Hotel, on April 30th & the 1st of May.

The sessions will be focused on the varied impacts of climate change on groundwater in Ireland and further afield, with particular emphasis on the effects of the 2018 drought on Irish groundwater resources.

Donal Daly, President of the IAH (Irish Group) and Matthew Collins, from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, will be opening the conference and there will be three keynote speakers:

- Bridget Scanlon from the University of Texas, presenting "Managing Water Resources within the Context of Climate Extremes"
- Vincent Fitzsimons from SEPA, on "Climate Change - are we going to do something about it?"
- Mark Cuthbert from Cardiff University addressing "The importance of ground water response times for understanding climate change impacts on ground water systems"

The final day will end with an interactive workshop: "QGIS for Hydrogeologists", outlining the use and benefits of open-source QGIS for hydrogeologists, presented by Shane Carey, from Geological Survey Ireland.
