Hydrogenator H-Cube Systems

Hydrogenator H-Cube Systems:

Hydrogenation is one of the most important reactions in chemical synthesis, however it is also very dangerous due to the nature of hydrogen that limits its use. The H-Cube® Systems eliminate the dangerous that are associated with hydrogenation as they have an in-situ hydrogen generation and handle the pyrophoric catalysts by filling them in sealed catalyst cartridges. The technology has been made by leaders in pharmaceutical, flavour and fragrance, fine chemical, agrochemical industries and academia to suit all needs and applications.

Hydrogenator H-Cube Mini Plus:

The H-Cube® Mini Plus hydrogenator is a safe, powerful yet affordable flow reactor system that generates high-pressure hydrogen with the electrolysis of water that allows chemists to perform catalytic hydrogenations from atmospheric pressure of 100-bar and a room temperature of 100°C in minutes. The hydrogen generation system of the H-Cube® Mini Plus can be easily turned off to allow non-hydrogenation reactions to be performed as well, such as C-C coupling reactions.

Key Features:

  • Hydrogenation without cylinders
  • No catalyst filtration
  • Fast reactions
  • Easy-to-use
  • Affordable
  • Built-in video tutorial
  • Automated hydrogen drying system

How does it work?

The hydrogen is generated by the electrolysis of water inside the system and the HPLC pump introduces the pure solvent into the system. It can be mixed using the mixing valve with the hydrogen. The gas-liquid mix can pass through the reaction zone while the system prepares to work at selected parameters such as pressure, temperature, and flow rate. Once the desired parameters are achieved, the user can change the input from the solvent to the solution of the reactants. The reaction mixture passes through a packed column containing the solid catalyst which is where the reaction will take place. The product leaves the column and the catalyst stays behind. The product is then collected in a vial.

H-Cube Pro:

The H-Cube® hydrogenator has higher throughput and a wider temperature range capability for more advanced applications than any other hydrogenator. There is active cooling for more selective reactions and real time reaction monitoring and data logging.

Key Features:

  • Hydrogenation without cylinders: two electrolytic cells for the in-situgeneration of up to 60 NmL/min of hydrogen (up to 100 bar)
  • No catalyst filtration
  • Active cooling system down to 10 °C
  • Heating capability up to 150 °C
  • Easy to use software that shows and records the real-time parameters
  • Quick optimisation using Simplex algorithm
  • Timer function for automation

Compatible systems

The H-Cube® Pro is compatible with other reactor modules to give users chemistry capabilities beyond hydrogenation:

Gas Module™:

The Gas ModuleTM allows the introduction of other gases other than hydrogenation like carbon monoxide, oxygen, or syngas. The user can pick from up to 14 different gases that can be applied at up to 100-bar pressure which widens the reactors chemistry abilities.

Phoenix Flow Reactor™:

This is a powerful flow reactor that can heat the reaction zone up to 450°C and is compatible with different types and sizes of reactors. When connected to the H-Cube Pro, the system can perform single and double-step reactions in series and monitor the whole process using the H-Cubes interface.

Autosampler™:

It can be a fully automated with the Autosampler™ system being connected which makes it ideal for performing optimisation studies, catalyst screening or library production. When the system includes the H-Cube® Pro, the Phoenix Flow Reactor™ and the Gas Module™ combined with the Autosampler™, this is now a fully automated flow chemistry platform. It is dedicated to high pressure and temperature reactions.
